Hello everyone I just bought three red hens, for fresh eggs, I built my coop, its nothing fancy, I am in the process of researching best DIY feeder options, and loving the process...

Thank you all for having me

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Nothing tastes quite like fresh eggs; much better than store bought ones that have sit on the refrigerated shelves for awhile.) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting those eggs.

I also forgot to mention I am looking for a blue or green layer, in gray or black feather colors...

True Ameraucanas, which come in a black variety lay blue eggs. Just be sure and get them from a reputable breeder rather than from a hatchery or feed store or you will be purchasing Easter Egger hybrids rather than true Ameraucanas. Hatcheries and feed stores frequently and incorrectly market their Easter Eggers as Ameraucanas or Araucanas. If you're not familiar with the difference, there is a good article at http://www.the-chicken-chick.com/2011/09/ameraucana-easter-egger-or-araucana.html explaining the difference between true Ameraucanas, true Araucanas, and Easter Eggers.

As Michael said, Black Ameraucanas are one type and as for gray feathers, the project color Lavender Ameraucanas might be another you would like... good luck! :)

Wow you guys are awesome...thank you so much for the warm welcome and help. I have been on various forums for various topics and never got such a happy response. Chickens must help the quality of life.

Great news I got my first of many eggs today!

Congratulations on that 1st egg!

Always an exciting moment...sort of like a reward for all the care you give them!
