Modified Purina Coop with full instructions and pictures (STAGE 1)

OK, Stage two finished for what we wanted to accomplish today.. I will try to get all uploaded and done tonight.. no promises.. but definitely by tomorrow..

All went well, a few surprises, the Purina plans are reallly horrible, since no instructions... some measurements are wrong as stated in other posts.. but we corrected those problems and will get you it soon along with a few new chicken pics!

I like the venting and the fact that you removed the need for cutting the wood at an angle. I am a bit concerned that there won't be enough ventilation with the purina coop I'm building (I live in the southeastern US and it gets very hot and humid here) and this looks like good way to get around the issue. My only concern would be what happens when it rains?

There's enough overhang it hasn't gotten wet inside yet. It has rained on it a couple of times so far.

Am hanging on to your posts! Thanks for taking the leadership here. Need your feedback and evaluation of the Purina Plan. Am sure you've problem solved it successfully. Looking forward to hearing what you have to say...and looking at your photos!

Am attaching the 2x4s to one another to make the legs now. I've followed you through each step and am clear on what happens there, but how did you attach the Floor to the 2x4 legs? Were each corner of the floor attached separetly on to each leg?

Seems to me that the weight of the floor is awfully heavy to do it that way. I can understand, therefore, adding additional "supports under each corner to make sure the floor would never move." How about adding the "additional support" blocks on to each leg before sliding the floor on top of each block? Do that separately? Did you have to screw the floor on to each block? Or, would the weight of the floor be sufficient to hold everything in place?

Your feedback is important to me. Am building this without assistance, so am trying to figure out how to handle all that weight as easy as I can.

James.

Hi James,

Sorry for the delay, we have a family emergency we are dealing with so I have not been on that much. We used 2x4's cut to 4 " or so and screwed them under the flooring as seen in the pictures (2nd to the last in stage 1).. this should give enough support the coop will not have alot of weight on it.. the legs themselves have to be strong to hold the whole unit.. we have talked, and probably will place two more support in the middle section to help support the middle.. but being it is only 6 feet wide I am probably certain that we are only doing it to support the roof line then the floor.

Thanks so much for posting this coop!!! I have began constructing mine but I have 14 chickens so I made mine 8x8. I have the posts made and the floor. The floor is HEAVY!!! I am concerned about the post holding up the floor. Does anyone know of what I can do to help strenghten the support? I will post some pics of what I have done so far later this evening.

Latest News. Am in process of screwing the treated support legs together, and a friend told me to make sure the treated end is the end that will be touching the ground. Mine were cut from 12 feet lengths, so the middle cut end is untreated! Just make sure the treated end goes on top of the ground. This is a new learning experience for me!
