I switched to home made soap, moisturizer, and lotion bars last year. My skin has never been in better shape. Of course we don't have the bitter cold where I am located but, I send all my products to my mother who lives in Alaska (who have very dry) skin and her skin has also responded positively to the lack of detergents and chemicals.

Either find a source or better yet learn to make your own soaps and moisturizers. Your skin will be glad you did! I promise. There are two soap threads on BYC and they are full of recipes and some resident experts on the subject. Check them out:

An added bonus is being able to gift your friends and family with healthy products they will enjoy.

With eczema I use about 20-24 ounces of lotion a month. After an entire youth of trying almost every product, the Vaseline fragrance free repairing moisture formulation works best for me. Have a bottle in every room, at work, in cars, at desks and keeps my skin feeling good despite making everything around me somewhat sticky. Cetaphil burns my hands despite supposedly better. I use shisheido face lotion and like the results. Although pricey, little bit of that goes a LONG way!

I'm jealous of all you who "only" have dry skin.

Silkie, I used to scent my own lotions and sell them. There are many sites that sell very high quality moisturizer base lotions that have the true emollient action that so many are lacking nowadays~I find lotions nowadays to be too watery. You can buy them in bulk and just buy a large pump to mount on the jug. It could save you loads of money...not to mention these lotions are not scented or colored. Good for eczema prone people.
