someone told me to put sugar on her vent and try to draw the fluid out, but when I googled it, every site said something different, one website said you can lube up a finger with petrolium jelly and gently push it back in, another one said to use veteran and spray their butt 2-4 times a day . Sadly molly died from the stress of trying to treat her, and I am devistated. So the question is a moot point right now, but I need to know for future. Also with things like bumble foot, and vent gleet, if you can't catch them calmly and believe me I have tried, how do you catch and treat them with out so much stress they die?

When a hen prolapses, the main thing is to keep the red prolapse tissue moist with any lubricant until it is able to be pushed back inside. Honey or sugar can reduce swelling, but some use oils or creams or water slouble lubricants. The main thing is to never let it dry out and keep pushing it back inside. The best way to grab a hen is to grab them off the roost at night in the dark, and then bring her inside in a dog crate to handle more easily. So sorry that you lost your hen.

So I just hopefully healed my hens prolapsed vent. It has stayed in for over 2 days now! She had a lot of dead tissue I had to remove with tweezers first but that’s a whole different story. I had her in a dog crate, gave her some snacks first (tried) and then sprayed with warm epsom salt water from a mist bottle, used antibiotic ointment since it what I had and was using for other issues as well and then really slowly, looking her in the eye talking calmly to her, just kept pushing her vent in until the tip of my glove was in and I felt it was back inside her. She resisted like 5-8 times before I got it where she would push out and I just kept slowly trying to get it back in. I finally got it but the next morning it was out with more dead tissue so that that might I did the same thing and the next morning it had stayed in! She was a new chicken to me so there not a ton of trust, so I certainly wasn’t bathing her but the epsom salt spray seemed to help. Every case is different though. I’m sorry about your chicken, I hope this helps the next time around!
