Yes I am still new to this and asking stupid questions!
So a few days ago I cleaned out the coop and looked like a bird exploded for all the feathers. I figured the dominant RIR must be getting rough with them. Three of the RIR have been looking a little rough feather wise now big one is starting to also. I noticed an almost bald spot on his neck when he stretched whick when I looked at it is full of what look like pin feathers. The other reds I have picked up feel prickly to touch in spots. They are just under three months old is that too young to Molt should I be looking for another issue? It's only the RIR not my wyandottes queens or giants.

If you can post photos, some members might be able to confirm that all is well and it's just a molt. Mine will usually go through 3 rounds before "stopping" at about 5 months with their adult feathers. It's good to be mindful of these things though, because there's always the risk of mites/lice or feather picking.

Here are a couple pics of the ones neck. Again new with this didn't want to jump gun on bug treatments if this is normal. I have read some on molt didn't see anything about it this young.

Oh wow, that's a lot of new growth coming in! I would assume it's a juvenile molt. I've never seen one of mine look that rough, but that doesn't mean it can't happen! She should look better in another week or two once those blood feathers open up.

I only notice what looked like a bald patch on this one when he stretched his neck out this is what I found. I didn't see anything red irritated looking and it's only the four RIRs looking rough and have picked up other ones and felt prickly. They are three months old this week from TSC. Reds feathers everywhere jumping off perch and running around looks like they are shedding like my cats.

The feathers are insane! It's hard to believe there's anything left on them in the end. Hang in there!

Thank you for info again new here didn't want to try and treat for something that's normal. And coop less than a week since cleaning again looks like a bird exploded for the feathers
I’m new too. My babies are a bit further along. I remember the first time I realize there were feathers everywhere. It was a molt. There’s also the time we were worried a certain chick was being bullied. It was a molt. 🤣

They’re molting right now at around 20 weeks. My biggest question is what to do with all the feathers. Throw them in the regular trash or compost. Admittedly I’ve been too busy (and lazy) to dive into that one. 😂
