Molting before 1 year?

The info I am finding seems to suggest your chickens will molt at about 18 months. My girls are not even a year old and a few of them appear to be molting. I see no signs of bugs, they act normal, but they look shaggy. Am I missing a problem or are they just molting early? I am in upstate NY and it is still cold and snowy. Thanks for your help, as always. Lesa

Mine seemed to do sort of a molt around 16 weeks. This was back in November

I hadn't realised they would molt that early either.

Mine did a mini molt at about 8 months.....

Mine also did a mini molt around 8 months old.
