Hi all,
I have just 5 Cochin hens left from our original flock of 12 years ago. These five girls are I think about 6 years old. One of my white hens is in molt and has lost most of the feathers on the top of each wing plus a section on her butt and neck. She is pecking her wings and breaking the feather shafts and causing bloody spots here and there. Her neck looks very red as though other hens were pecking at it. I tried blowing some white talc on it ( I am out of DE) but that didnt work for more than a few seconds. Help? Years ago I remember trying Blue Cote or something like that on an injury and it just made it worse...more pecking. Any tips? Thanks....

She may be craving protein. Buy some chick starter, give her some scrambled eggs.

Oh! I just assumed it was pecking because it was red..... you know how they do..
