Molting...or rather a lack of molting.

Hello all. This is purely a curiosity thing and not something I'm overly concerned about but we rescued three adult Orpingtons back at the beginning of October. While I knew my flock of 4 Buff Orpington pullets wouldn't be molting this year, I expected the three older ones to. They come from a fairly unknown situation where they weren't receiving the best care. The two Buffs (~3yrs) were both skinny, the black orpington (~6yrs) actually looked decent, and all three had mites (thinking northern fowl).

Any thoughts on why they haven't gone through a seasonal molt? Thanks all!

Some chickens go through worse molts than others. Are you certain on the age of these hens that aren't molting?
Not 100%, going with the ages the previous owner provided when surrendering them. They don't look young though. No one is laying and one is currently being treated for salpingitis.

Assuming they are over a year old, they may have already molted, or may start molt in upcoming weeks. I had one bird start molting back in July, while another just started last week.
They definitely look to be over a year old. Or at least they look significantly more "worn" that my pullets. They're a scrappy looking bunch. I'll keep watching and waiting.
