Mom stepped on pipped egg!

Some pretty harshly worded advice here...way to make someone feel bad about an already bad situation.
I agree! I have a hen that lets me check her eggs on a constant basis, even during hatching, and I've never had any issues with her harming the eggs or chicks. Sounds like it was just an accident on the hens part and not intentional at all.

I am sure it is hard for the forum "regulars" to remember when they were new and did not know everything...

Either way, it is a learning experience and hopefully it works out well for the OP.

Sometimes things work out well regardless of what we do.

I have a Turkey hen who is hatching some chicken eggs for me at the moment. In fact, 2 have just internally pipped. She will literally stand up for me to check her eggs anytime I please. It's all about knowing your hens and what kind of brooder/mama they are.

They are in an A-frame coop so around day 18 I use my water hose and spray the ground under the nesting boxes to increase the humidity. I've never had any problems with shrink wrapping by doing this.

It's hard to tell from the pick, but is the yolk absorbed?
Hard to tell. I basically just gently stripped the membrane so it wasn’t sticking to the chick and left it in the half shell hoping it will finish on its own. You could see where it has already started to crack its way out of the shell, so I’m hoping most if not all of the yolk was absorbed.

Well, the chick did pop itself out of the egg, the yolk was absorbed, however, it was missing a lot of feathers and just didn’t look right and passed away this evening. I’m thinking that it wasn’t meant to be even under the right circumstances. Thanks again to all that helped. Looking forward to hopefully the last chick tomorrow for the season.
