Momma did WHAT??????

You should tell Meyer. They might replace her for you.

I'm so sorry you lost Daisy. These little babies are so fragile, it doesn't take much for them to get ill. I'll keep my fingers crossed that the other little ones stay healthy.

I changed their light from a 100 watt to a 75 watt last night. I am wondering if it was to hot and there was not enough room to get away from the light if they were to hot? I dunno. I am watching them all REALLY close though. Still have the anitbio. in the water. Any suggestions as to what I should be using? I have just about everything there is in the fridge. The tetracycline I am using I had in the freezer, but I am wondering if it may be out of date. I just want to be able to get the remaining 6 through it.

When I cleaned the box last night everyone was jumping around and learning how to use their new 'wings'. "WOW Momma check this out! I can JUMP and fly a little now!!!"

Are you seeing anyone else with symptoms? Any odd droppings? I think if everything is normal then the tetracycline is fine. :) I would say run it for about a week and then keep an eye on them. You can give them vitamin/electrolyte water for a few days afterward if you're worried.

As far as overheating, is your heat lamp at one end of the brooder or in the middle? If it's at one end, your babies shouldn't have any issues with overheating. I used to use a 250 watt bulb with my chicks (before I knew better) and put it at one end of their brooder, and I never had problems with chicks getting too hot.

I wouldn't worry too much about the medicine being out of date if it was stored in the freezer (unless you're talking years out of date).

Gotta love the 'learning to fly' stage! I think my room still has dust in it from last year's chicks buzzing around.

I noticed that Victoria had a few snezzes, but no runny nose, no discharge. Now that I think about it, Daisy DID have foamy droppings a day or so before she died. They were all on the chick electrolytes from day one. I did stop them with the antibiotics though. It said that they would deter uptake of it.

What kind of bedding are they on? Mine have the occasional sneeze when they kick up dust from their shavings.

Consistently foamy droppings or just one or two? I see that sometimes with my chicks, too, and it doesn't seem to be a problem if it's only once every few poops.

I'm sorry I'm asking so, so many questions.

Aw, how sad. I'm sorry you lost her.

To be perfectly honest, if the other chicks are doing well- no diarrhea, good appetite- I would not medicate them. Especially tetracycline which has been proven to harm growth plates in growing mammals-not sure how it affects growing chickens though....

I see you mention foamy poop-are they on medicated feed?

Yikes, I didn't know that, oldchick! I totally agree!
