Anyone have a Sultan? I have never had one, and though it was different.

I've never had a Sultan, but I've heard that with all the crested breeds, you have to watch for feather picking in their crests as it can quickly become a serious problem.

Yes. Because the crest blocks their vision, I guess they tend to just let it happen (crested breeds in general, not Sultans in particular). There are lots of people that never have issues with picking in crested breeds, and I imagine if they have plenty of room to roam (and get away from each other), they'll be alright. It's just something to watch for, just in case.

I will definitly watch for that. Thanks for the info! It's a new breed for me, so any advise is greatly appreciated! I will be using her for PR work literally. Being in the Dept. of Agriculture work, i get a lot of chances to do education and stop in at seminars and stuff. I use my rooster 'Bird at some of these times. He loves to meet people, but i am scared a lot of what he could do. (he loves Pet Smart though lol) I am thinking maybe the Sultan might be a way to reach more people to educate about livestock and chickens. To see that they are not all just 'livestock' per say.
