Monsanto

Yeah, that was posted in the demise of bees thread. It's disturbing, though we don't know the whole story on that one.

Please do not believe all that you read on the internet. I am not a fan of Monsanto and I have 18 hives of my own. The beekeeper in question had hive infected with American Foul Brood a disease which can endanger many hives. The approved method of control is burning the hives with bees included. He was not cooperating with the inspectors and putting beekeeping in his area at risk.

This is a statement issued by the Illinois State Beekeepers' Assoc.

i agree with the part of the roundup. it is an herbicide, and the only reason it would damage bees is if it was used to remove all of the bee's food sources in the area, but that would be a decision by the people using the chemical.

I was curious about the foul brood. What if the man was trying to breed a foul brood resistant strain? How does one go about that without having a hive that is exposed to foul brood?

American Foul Brood have been studied extensively by the best universities. It is not something that should be dabbled with by a small time beekeeper. The spores stay viable for over 40 years in honey and equipment and is only treatable by using specific antibiotics which only keep the bees alive but do not cure the disease. It also helps create antibiotic resistant bacteria.
AFB is extremely infectious and can be spread to neighboring apiaries.

This beekeeper was not working on AFB resistant bees ~ in fact he denied having AFB in his hives. He refused inspection which is required by law and was generally uncooperative regarding the health of his hives ~ which put other beekeepers hives in danger.

very interesting. thank you

Thanks, Sgtmom52. It's getting so hard to tell what's fact and what's twisted and agenda-angled propaganda. I appreciate getting info from another perspective, and it reminds me to always be a sceptic about anything that's posted on the Internet.

I personally prefer not to eat food from a plant that can be sprayed with Round Up and stay healthy and produce food. I think any food containing a GMO should be labeled and we should have the choice. We have the choice to smoke, eat fattening foods, drink liquor, and diet drinks, we should know what is in our food.

Well look Monsanto making profit from increased demand for their corn.

A big concern about Monsanto GMO crops is that their genes jump to other farmer's non-GMO plants, and to wild plant populations. It's not something Monsanto can contain, it pollutes the environment and messes with the ecosystem and evolutionary ecology. Then they have the audacity to tell us what we can and can't do with their seeds (I'll be glad to tell THEM what they can do with their seeds! lol).

It reminds me of secondhand tobacco (or reefer) smoke. You can tell people not to smoke in your building, or your car, but you can't tell the secondhand smoke from elsewhere not to come into your lungs from elsewhere.

I have no problem with buisnesses having no smoking policies for their property, but the large hospital in my town has come out and said they will start phasing out sweetened drinks ( 2/3 of the drinks are sugar free and are going to something to the effect of 90%) their reasoning is it's for peoples health and it is like their no smoking policy on thier grounds. I saw someone had posted a comment on the newspaper website that they never heard of second hand diabeetes, I thought the comment was correct, if it is only effecting MY BODY why should it matter to them what I eat or drink?
