Sounds like you pretty much have it figured out, except for, like you said, the claw marks. I have no clue, but I'm definately wanting to know if anyone figures it out!!!

When was that found???? I live in Beaver Co. and never heard of it.
I'm thinking about four or five years ago. The Game Commission took possession of it, and it was eventually sent to a sanctuary near Harrisburg. "Hidden Treasures" wild animal park up off Route 422 had sold it illegally. I can't remember which town in Beaver County it was.
When I saw the first news reports on television, nobody knew what it was, and I was very smug -- "Show me the pictures, I was raised on Wild Kingdom, I'll know what it is!" Then -- notsomuch.
By the way, we lost another chicken, also during the day. Our stunningly pretty Ameraucauna roo, Diego, dissapeared without a trace. He was a pain, and I'm glad that if we had to lose one it was a rooster, not a hen, (we have way too many roos) but we're still sorry he's gone and hope he didn't suffer. He and his two brothers ran in a group together and beat up every roo they didn't like, also gang raped any hen they could catch. Usually the roos will make an effort at defending the flock if it's something not too intimidating, like, say, a cat...so....must've been intimidating enough to make everybody run, b/c he wouldn't have been anywhere by himself, the others would've been close by. Life is chaos right now but we will be ordering a camera soon. ( I know, I keep saying that, but I do mean it)
my last batch of chickens was killed by a fishercat ONE fishercat there were 30 and one day they were all gone most of them i think were killed for fun
