Montana

Welcome living the dream! I'm over in the Missoula area :)

Karla- if I wasn't already full up with 2 roos (father/son who like each other) then I'd take him! But I think he'd get beat up here :( Hopefully you get a great home for him!!

Well we got hit with about 5 inches of snow last night. Someone hit a pole and put us out of power for 7 hours from before 9- after 3am. That was fun! Glad for the wood stove for sure!

I'll get a picture :)

Thank you 9gerianmile, I'm so glad be back on this forum...it is kind of addictive don't you think, I joined at 8:20 am and am still online, there are dishes in the sink, laundry on the couch well at least everyone is fed

I,m glad you have your power back, we've been getting our share of snow since yesterday too but not as bad as your 5-inches. Just had an inch yesterday, it melted and now snowing again but its TOO WINDY.

Welcome livingthedream, I'm just north between Billings and Roundup. Man the weather is nasty today, Bad accident on hwy 87 this morning, the hwy was real slippery, it looked like the car hit the cliff air born, then rolled down and landed on its top and started on fire. I hate seeing things like that, just slow down.
Wind is very bad today, I feed the cows and horses under the lean to so they didn't have to be out in the wind. I've got the wood stove going full blast, but still can't get the darn house to warm up.
Every one stay safe, and stay warm

You are close Azriel, nice to meet you, I know the roads are really slippery, I'm just now going to leave for our son's youth orchestra, I don't like the icy roads either, wish we had heated roads or something ;) Tonight I hear it is supposed to go down to zero, stay warm and take care

Hey girls, hi living the dream! Thanks for the heads up on my baby rooster, I just hope I do not have to have him processed. Dang it. We got about 2 inches, sure hope we get more. I envy you all with wood stoves, my home does not have one. I did purchase a kerosene heater ( of them ) in case anything happens and enough fuel to go through the winter. Also a propane heater, and as a back up I'm getting a huge tank and another propane heater lol . I have a generator in case of power outages ,nothing fancy small but enough gas for a week or so. Going to store at least 30 gallons of gas , have 15 right now. It's smart to plan ahead, looking at a small camp stove I can vent out a window if I ever have loss of power to long.
Been stocking up on the feed, so far 3 months ahead, on shavings and on food. Next month will be stocking up on scratch and peck and getting 3 months ahead on that to. I will put it all in Mylar bags with oxy absorber and then into five gallon buckets. Spit lasts a lot longer then in bags alone.
I live in the city, I'm pressing my luck now in having chickens, I have ten so I'm really pressing it. I do not want my neighbors to get mad over a rooster. There pretty good about my girls, and love when I give them a dozen here and there but no sence in rocking the boat.

Its cold this morning, not even up to 10 yet. birr, but it is beautiful and sunny, the trees are all covered with frost and sparkle like diamonds when the sun hits them. Its like being surronded by trees full of natures Christmas lights. I love mornings like this as long as I can stay in with a few cups of coffee and enjoy not going to work. I opened the pop doors for the girls a 7am, and picked up some eggs for breakfast, now I'll have to go back out soon to feed the cows and horses and pick up the next round of eggs before they freeze.
Happy Sunday

Morning Azriel , cool here, below zero this morning.just got off work and still have had no coffee. Thinking a piza is also in order!

So glad I do not have to go out at all in the mornings to care for the chickens lol, the electric pop door is a godsend, and the tin can heater is to. We fill up the feeders completely every third day ( there usually still part way filled) and my daughter collected eggs at noon every day when she goes from school to her job.my Son collects the rest at 5:00 when he goes out to give treats and left overs , seems to work great, daughter cleans the coop completely every 2nd week, and my son does the pen every week. All I do is reap the rewards hee hee hee

What am I going to do when they leave home
I'm off to find something to eat and fire up the keurig coffee maker .

Hi Karla, what electric door did you get? I would really like to do that, but I need 3 of them and when my BF's son helped me finish the coop he put the doors on the outside with a rope that I pull to open and close the pop doors

, so I think I would need to get a full door with frame and everything that I could put on the inside wall. That would sure be nice, as it is I have to open the coop at 4am on the days that I work, and with it still being dark I worry about something getting in. I do have an electric fence around the coop and pens, but that will not stop a weasel.

So far our new coop is doing great. Have had 5 inches of snow and cold weather. Still need to put up a few roosters. Just decorating our Christmas tree and getting ready to start our baking tomorrow. Welcome to you livingthedream.

I also had a pop door I had to lift up and it was huge. I hated it. When I had the we door put on the man just reframed the pop door in and it was fast and easy. I will go look for the name of the door, it's been a god send! It opens at 7:00 here and closes at 5:30 I never have to go out side lol. We now all sleep in on the weekends. Let me go look to. See what I got ok. I know he just framed the opening and the door fit right in it was a very simple thing.
