Monthly Grocery Budget.

1st thing I ran out of this month.....coffee creamer. We did use milk for one day. Just not the same.

2nd thing, tomatoes, diced. I could've used any kind, but I had none. I'll tally up my grocery bills later today & let you all know how it's went. I've also purchased gift cards from there because step daughter was in town & we all went to O'Charley's for dinner. As well as for my prepay phone. Most importantly, DH has all his scripts filled at the pharmacy there......so, I know we spend a significant amount. But hopefully I have done better than last month.:hu

Just an idea...you might want to pick up a little can of condensed milk to store in your pantry. That way, the next time you run out of creamer you can use the canned milk. It's sweetened and a little goes a long ways.

I now keep some powdered creamer in the cupboard. I'd be happy with that, but hubby has higher standards than I do. My GS also loves to make iced coffee, and chug-a-lugs the liquid creamer, so I hide it at the back of the fridge. BTW, powdered creamer is great when you want hot chocolate. Just heat milk, add a touch of creamer, and a bit of chocolate syrup. If you really want to be frugal, you can also make a master mix with powd creamer, powd milk, cocoa and sugar. We don't drink it much, so don't bother. But for a family with small kids, that's a great option. Also, master mixes for biscuits, pancakes, or any other common item you bake are a huge $ and time savings. I'm just too much of a penny pincher to ever buy Bisquick.

Honey uses real cream in his coffee. It's just one of those things I keep stocked now, and always try to have a spare in the extra fridge. No one else here drinks coffee.

I spent the last bit of my monthly budget yesterday. We're stocked through the end of the month, should be. I told The Locusts yesterday I was out of grocery money, what there was was all there would be until the end of the month. I swear there was panic in their eyes until they looked at the calendar and figured it was less than a week. It was funny, like they thought we were actually going to run out of food

. Three freezers, a decently stocked pantry inside and emergency food outside, and they're freaking out. Go figure. Oh, and chicken finally kicking out some eggs, so fresh eggs are again an option--yippee!

I've been stocking up on tomato products, seems like we use them a lot. Before I got sick I always had home canned tomato products, now I have to make an effort to remember to buy them. Here's to a good crop this year!

My 14 y.o. GS made supper last night. I had to stand over him and "help", but he did all the cooking. Sloppy Joe's with toasted buns and cheese, carrots. Not too shabby!

That's great LG, I like hearing about kids learning how to cook. It's good training for when they are on their own and I think they better appreciate the work that goes on behind a meal.

Yep, he's a pro at Ramen noodles! He can make a mean piece of toast! And he can dirty every dish in the kitchen making a batch of Jello. But, progress is being made!

Well if he can make Ramen noodles and toast, he's about ready to go to college! I hear that's all they eat.

DH is considerably older than 14 and he still thinks every dish in the kitchen has to be dirtied before dinner is done.

Our son survived on steamed hotdogs and 'package' macaroni and cheese for 4 years.
