MONTHLY Swap meet JACKSONVILLE, FLA-----INFO HERE!

who is going to the swap on 5/26/13?
I will be going and will be my first time but i am so looking forward to it. i will be bringing some chicks with me. do i have to call ahead to sell them there or just bring them and get a spot when i get there? and i will be looking to get some ducks and maybe a goose or 2. i got a pig that is pregnant. i will be bringing some of her babies next month. But i look forward to seeing some BYC friends there.

I used to go when gas was much cheaper but I live across the state and it is a 2 hr drive one way. Just show up and pick your spot. People start setting up around 8am. You may want to bring a umbrella or canopy as there is no shade. When I used to go there was always a good turnout. There are several BYC members that live in that area.

I'm going to the swap for the first time and I will be bringing some black copper maran Roos (7-8 weeks) and cream leg bar Roos (3weeks). How do roosters move at the swap? I'd prefer not come home with them.

I will make a suggestion... Since the swap is not for a couple of more weeks, I would take photos of your chicks and post them on craigslist. In the past, I have rarely had any troubles selling my BCM cockerels through craigslist.

There is no calling ahead. First Come, First to pick a spot. The swap is done at the front of the feed store - in the parking lot and on the grass. There is overflow parking in the shopping center next door.

There is very little shade, so keep that in mind when you are deciding what to bring for your comfort and for the chicks.

There are no tables, unless you bring some. There are no chairs, unless you bring them. The early vendors will park the cars / trucks in a row and work off their trunks / tailgates.

I've seen pigs sell quickly at this show. Some folks post ahead of time what they are bringing and then pre-sale items to other BYC.

Good Luck :)

Sorry Cmom, I didn't see your post until after I posted mine.... It looks like I offered the same advice you did LOL...

ok thank you so much

What do they go for?

Pricing is affected by age, sex, and quality of bird.

That being said $5 is a good place to start for very young cockerels (less than a month old) of any non-common breed like the marans and legbars.
You might want to price your marans a little higher since they are older (8 weeks old). If you have a lot of cockerels, you may want to think about the lowest price you want per bird. Some folks are interested in raising these birds for eating. Those folks want a discount because they will buy all the males you have. The bottom line always comes back to how strongly you feel that ....
I'd prefer not come home with them.

You can check the craigslist current ads in your area and see what chicks are going for in your area.

Thanks math ace. I forgot about bringing chairs and a table if you want. The swap usually lasts 8am till around noon then people start leaving. I do miss going over but it just doesn't pay anymore. It usually cost me now. I may take a drive over one Sunday just to see everyone.
