MONTHLY Swap meet JACKSONVILLE, FLA-----INFO HERE!

Fleming Island Pet Clinic, Dr. Curtis. Best avian vet in the area, hands down. She saved my rooster after a hawk attack and it cost me about $40. Just let her know if your budget is limited right off the bat so she gears her care with that in mind. She's the one taking our guinea keets.

I'm new to chickens and to BYC so how exciting to discover the swap meet! I live in Brevard so jax is not too far for me to do as a day trip.

Since I am just starting, I need a feeder, a good info book, a waterer, and a chicken, of course! Am I likely to find used items for a one bird set-up? I prefer steel over plastic for food and water supplies and I also would prefer to hang each. Does this discourage rodents or help with spillage and "decorating"? I'd love to read some pros and cons based on experience.

I have fallen in love with the blue and lavender Ameraucanas, but so far have only gotten a response for some mixed heritage chicks in my area. I haven't responded yet, as I will probably take one if I can't find a true Ameraucana. If anyone is bring any, I would prefer an older pullet over hatching an egg, but would really like a girl who is producing eggs. I would happily take one that is in her last years of laying as I get my feet wet. My husband and I don't need too many eggs, so low or intermittent output is fine.

Looking forward to Sunday and meeting some new folks!

well you'll need more then one chicken as they are flock creatures, I have a pure wheaten male who is covering EE's and other breeds so mine would be mixed also-

I have a hatch coming up one over blue eggs only (5 eggs), the other over my darkest brown eggs(5 eggs) (excluding my marans that started laying this week)

the Feed store will also be open, but someone is bringing extra supplies too-

-I never hung my food I did water when my chooks where in a temp pen... It worked well to keep the water clean.

I'm feeling a little spooked by egg hatching...I would feel horrible if I messed up and killed all the chicks. I don't have a choice about a single hen as our county ordinance only allows one for a property my size. Of course if it is a matter of the mental health and emotional welfare of the chicken. . .

I did not realize the store would be open. I was so excited I skipped the middle of the thread to find out if the meets were still happening, and at the beginning of the thread the store was said to be closed, I thought. . .

Thanks for your input!

The store is normally closed on Sundays. They open is especially for us once a month.

Hens don't really make any noise so I don't understand zoning's issue. Are people only allowed one dog in your county too?

CRAZY ZONING! Do they think Hens CROW ? ? ?
