more bang for the buck

hey aladatrot

it was nice meeting you the other day. i'll let you know when we get some more broilers. i know for sure we'll be getting some in october since that's the trade days.

btw, are you going to be selling your hay come late fall? i'd like to get some from you, about 100 square bales if that's how you're doing it.

thanks!

Yes, great meeting both of you the other day. I must say that was a great experience for my first time raising chickens. My smaller birds ended up around 3 lbs and my biggest ones right at 5 lbs each. I was hoping for more of those bigger ones, but I can't complain about my "test run". I plan to do more when the weather turns cooler and I don't have to worry about the heat. I am going to get my next cornish X from Ideal. Merriam (the lady with the really nice chickens) said that's where hers came from, and we fed the same food. She had lots of water stations about next to each feeder so her birds didn't have to travel more than a few feet. I'm assuming that coupled with the genetics from ideal were the factors in her birds being so much heavier than mine. Also, we did the dates and my birds were only 8 weeks. Not so disappointing on the weights as I was when I thought they were 10 weeks old.

Cheers!
M
