Should i be using gloves to handle my ducks or just making sure to wash my hands thoroughly?

Do I need to wash containers in dawn before letting them swim in them?

I need tips and tricks to make sure they stay healthy and happy!

It's always a good idea to wash your hands thoroughly before and after handling them. As far as washing containers, it's a good idea to wash things before any use, just to remove anything that could have gotten on there (think rat waste, oils from the manufacturer, etc). I like Dawn dish soap but that's probably a matter of personal preference. Congratulations on your ducklings! They are gorgeous and I know they're filling your heart. Ducklings can be a lot of work in the beginning as they are messy little boogers, but they're worth it and they'll be ready to go out to their duck house before you know it. They grow up way too fast

I use white vinegar and water to wash and clean out buckets and feed bowls.

This is what I do. Soap residue can make them sick. However, if it is really something that should be soaked - washing with soap and then rinsing really well is a good idea.
But, if you're just referring to in between cleans, vinegar and water will do.


Unless I've been messing with something where my hands need washed prior (like a dirty or sick bird), I don't wash my hands on purpose before handling ducklings. But always after. Of course, it's a personal preference.
