300 vs. 15 nyeeeeeee Okay, I'll be happy with TWO.
Yeah, I knew about the splashes and blues, but for some wierd reason, I just want very dark blue, and more as fast as I can get them. Will you ever sell eggs from those three in the picture?

Yep, Jared black x splash = 100% Blue!!

Joe, you need to kep the good breeding stock to maintain the dark blue flock you want. Your breeding stock and your main flock in this case are not the same.

I am hatching more eggs every day. To be able to have hatching eggs ready for spring.

You do understand that eggs from those 3 dark blue girls in with Mosby will not give chicks their same color??

I have somewhere around 75 orpington chicks growing out now.

They are all just lovely, MissP!

Miss P, I have long been a fan of you and your common sense to life and you are one of my heros where Orps are concerned. I can only imagine the work and care that you have put into the orp breed and I for one am very gratefull that you and a few decicated BYC's have took this breed on and are improving on the stock. I personally can not wait to see Red and Lavendar orps in all chick homes in American and I will be very proud to say that I was a member of BYC when those dedicated few worked so hard to bring these colors to America. That I sat on the seat and hung on every piece of info these dedicated few said. I would personally like to Thank you and the other dedicated few for marching forward no matter the disapointments and the work, for the small steps in success that will bring these 2 colors to America and to the world. Thank you all.

I hear ya Joe, 18 eggs and I got 1 blue roo, 1 black roo, 2 black hens, 1 blue hen that never grew and just died. But I was happy as heck and loved the wait and the results.

Miss P, I have my black roo in with the 2 black hens and 5 buffs and 2 buff/BR crosses should make for an interesting mix. What do you think. Do I need another roo in there or is that an ok mix. If ya think I need another roo would you throw in a buff or the blue?

I also put my 2 dorking roo's in with 5 dorking hens and 1 BR hen, so my pen's are done til the next hatch (the 1st week of Sept). The rest will be relocated or renamed Pot Pie.

No matter which color hens and roo you keep you won't get the only deep blues that you want. In order to have the greatest chance of getting the best blues you should keep a breeding pen of black and splash in order to procuce all blues. All the blues coming out of those matings won't be the same intense dark color, some might be light, but you will be getting ALL blues and can pick and choose based on the color your eye finds to be candy goodness.

Get your self a big splash roo and put him in with some black hens or get a black roo and put him in with some splash hens. The result will ALWAYS be blue. No blacks. No splashes. You will then be able to breed your flock for the depth of blue you want.

Then you will have a laying flock of all blue hens.

Yummy.
