More Problems on Auntie's Farm

Just got off the phone with the avian vet. Marmalade's blood work looks fine. No infection. No problems with heart or liver. It's just that her eggs aren't making it where they need to go.

Well, then, I will get her the hormone implants asap. I put a call in to my regular vet. I will ask him if he can do the hormones. If not (he's not an avian specialist, but he's been treating birds for 30 years), I'll see if he knows someone who can who won't charge me $500+ every few months. Or I'll see if spaying her might be a better option. The avian vet didn't like that option, but it may be what's best. It's only a matter of time before internal laying becomes peritonitis.

Marmalade is at a NEW vet getting a consult for hormones or surgery for her internal laying.

They like ducks here! The brought her water and greens!

I've taken her to my regular vet for draining since her initial diagnosis. Still no infection (thank goodness).

But she's having a hard molt right now - feathers everywhere!

Shes so pretty. Im pretty sure V one of my 6 yr old Runners is accumulating fluid in her belly😞 no vet around here so for now I’m just keeping an eye on here she’s still active.
I sure hope Marmalade does really good under this vet.

I'm so sorry... There needs to be more avian vets - esp as popular as chickens and ducks and quail and pigeons and turkeys and so on are now and definitely in rural areas. It's a missed opportunity for the vets, imo.

Marmalade gets her implants on Thursday. We will try that first. If that doesn't alleviate the problem, we'll do the surgery.

I REALLY like this vet. Very down to earth and cares about birds. She does work with local rescues. She showed me pics of a spay she did recently on an eagle!
