I wouldn't use that for the floor because coons can grab their feet, and they will get their legs caught. 1/2 inch wire works great for me, even if it doesn't all go through it will before long. The only time I have had it build up is when it is around 10*.

You can always put a 'dropped floor' below it if you have a problem with raccoons, I don't have that problem.

I've used 1/2" wire with mine and it was a mess...never again! Plus I'd be afraid the 1/2" wire wouldn't hold up under their weight, but I guess that depends on how you make the cages and how many birds you have in them.

Here are the nails I use, no way these are coming out, and they come in different colors...

I USE ALL 1/2 HARDWARE CLOTH FOR FLOORING AND HAVE NO POO STICK PROBLEMS AT ALL... HOWEVER EVEN WITH 1/2 X 1/2 IF NOT ENCLOSED ON THE BOTTOM COONS WILL GET YOUR BIRDS... 1/2 X 1 WOULD BE EVEN WORSE AND HARDER ON THEIR FEET

OK so ...like I never ate quail. What do they taste like? QUAIL How do you cook them?WITH HEAT What kind of quail?I DONT CARE LETS JUST EAT 'EM ALL!

Using 1/2" hardware cloth. Not worried about the integrity. Will use a wire brush to scrub as needed. Also am using pans under my cages to catch droppings (the 2/5lb yorkie loves chicken pudding and I am sure she would love quail pudding too, disgusting little critter!

My major questions remains unanswered: Starting with 50-60 eggs? Hoping for at least a 50% hatch rate for a newbie. Is the 3 cage system a good plan? I want enought eggs to eat, pickle and sell, and plenty of campers. I plan on letting the grow out pen hold the campers, m/f and send them to camp around 10 weeks. The layer pen I plan letting them lay until about 8-12 months old then they will get their turn for camp. And my breeders I will replace them also around 8-12 months and they will go to freezer camp.

Is this a decent starting idea/plan? I am sure adjustment will be made as needed.
