More Weird Weird Going On

Sounds like it is time for separate pens for the separate species and more chicken hens for the roosters.

Oh dear Lord. I didn't want so many. I didn't know this was going to happen. I'm trying to manage this by myself. And I love all these birds. It would break my heart to get rid of a one of them.

Sadly we get very attached while they're babies and haven't reached sexual maturity. Once they do, you have to be prepared to make adjustments because they will no longer live in harmony.

Now, by that I mean, they can't be confined together. If you have enough space that they can separate and run away from each other, they are usually alright to roam together. But when you confine them to a coop and run together, they will fight, and mate, and injure each other.

I have a mixed flock of chickens, ducks, and geese. They roam the yard fairly peacefully together, but each species has their own safe space housing.

Well that makes me feel some better. i was in the process of making them a better, larger coop for the nights. Guess I'm going to need to rethink this. Thank you

Sounds like it and it's sad.

It's nature. As animals grow, they get to mating age, and that's what most intact male animals focus on. They're not cute little fuzzballs forever. Not long at all, actually. Are these your first birds?

Yes, theses are the first birds I have had at the same time. When I was much younger I had chickens, but life was to chaotic to really pay attention I suppose.
