Thanks for sharing your beautiful pics! How does the Percheron (or any draft horse) ride compared to regular riding horses? Is it slower? bumpier? faster? I've been wanting to get a draft horse, and also train it to do work. I've also heard that they eat a ton of food.
My Maggie weighs in at 2100 #'s BUT she does need a diet. The poor thing is limited to 2 hrs of grazing a DAY and NO grain only Free Balance salt mineral. ITs actually the opposite of what you would think, they are VERY easy keeps. She gets fat on air. LOL
As with any horse the smoothness of the ride depends on their confirmation and atheltic conditioning. I LOVE her trot, hate her canter. BUT drafts were made for extended trots to cover 25 + miles a day. I wouldn't trade her for the world. We have everything from an Arab to a Barrell APHA to Mustangs. Hands down I pick my Perchie everytime, that is if I get to her before my hubby and kids can. Our 6 and 9 yr old double on her and anyone can ride her she is so trustworthy. She is my dream trail horse she will go anywhere and thru anything. I hope that helps anwswer your questions. If your looking to buy a big en , all I can say is ride them 1st, some are trained wrong and are very HEAVY thru the bit. My mare was trained by me, and with all of our horses I use quiet gentle methods. Our son has been riding her since he was 3 so she is very responsive.
