I agree. Looks like a she to me. Here is a picture of some of mine when they were about the same age as yours. I think she's practicing. Some of mine will sing/squawk on their roosts before and after they lay an egg in a nest box.

I didn't realize they'd do their egg song (ie shout) before laying an egg. Thanks!

We have 4 girls, one which is a RIR. She IS the most vocal! Rhoda will talk all day long and especially in the am, whether she is laying , getting ready to lay, done laying.... whatever.

She talks to our Boxer, other birds, our friends- real chatty girl.

We mimick her sounds and pretend we're having a conversation!
Shhh.... she's my favorite.
