Mosaic chickens

Mine I hatched from stock I bought. Love that they dont fight a lot or are very agressive, they get along well with my kiddos.

How did they lay for you? Curious if you experienced the same solid laying in the winter as the originating Farm does...

I'm curious too, since I have five Mosaic pullets who are 5-6 months old. The woman I get them from said hers started laying at around 8 months.

How big do Mosaics get to be???

They're considered Large Fowl, on the small end of medium. My cockerel is taller than most of my hens, but probably only weighs 5 lbs right now, and will probably mature to around 6.5-7 lbs. I suspect there's some Hmong (or some other oriental gsmefowl) influence somewhere in there, due to their color variety and their lean build, either Ayam Cemani or Svart Hona, and some sort of laying breed. But since Brian, the founder at Gold Feather Farms, won't answer my emails, that is only speculation based on hours upon hours of digging and research and a relatively uneducated guess.
Thus far, they're very quiet, shy and gentle birds who are very active, and excellent flyers. The cockerel has thus far been a total gentleman, and only crows for about 10 minutes first thing in the morning, then he's done for the day. The breeder I got them from says they start laying around 8 months old, and that they're good winter layers. I'll let you know how it goes for me when mine do start to lay.

Some Oriental chicken breeds have turquoise earlobes like that. I am guessing it comes from either Hmong or Ayam Cemani chickens that were used to develop the breed.

This is AWESOME info!! Ha, you literally answered 5 of the 7 questions I’d emailed to gold feather Farms!! Though I know you wouldn’t know yet first hand since you have young’ns still, I’d also asked about their broodiness & mothering capabilities (maybe your breeder knows?) and also if they had any unrelated or very distant lines, so I could acquire a separate rooster. You birds a just GORG!!

Hey @MissLavender! Do you (or anyone else coming across this thread) have pics you can post of the mosaic cockerels vs pullets at about 7-8 weeks? I have an opportunity to purchase some grow outs here in CO and I’d like to do my best in picking out one cockerel and rest pullets!
