Mosquito (and other pesky insect) Rant

I am not kidding when I say Bounce fabric softener sheets. Tie it to your belt loop or what we did one time, put it on top of your head. The skeeters were around but would not land on us at an outside dinner. Weird, but it worked.
Also, Garlic, going fishing or outdoors, I'll sprinkle garlic powder in my hair, down my pants and top. I smell a bit gamey, but I don't like bites. This spring I began to give the girls garlic each day to keep the bugs off them.
We eat a lot of garlic, even on our eggs, so we do not notice the added flavor.
DH wanted to know if we could feed them bacon if then we could have 'bacon and eggs' on our plates each mornings! lol, silly guy!~

We actually ordered a set of clothes for each of us from here, years ago:

No repellent needed and they really work. I found that for me, I did need a hat underneath, to keep the netting away from my face. They're great if you are sensitive to chemicals or even if you just don't want to get all sprayed up to only go outside for a short time.

Most people don't need this, but it's pretty handy for those that do.

Bug bites are the pits for me. I use mosquito be gone by ortho around my house. I am not sure if I can use it now with the chicks. I am contacting ortho I know it doesn't hurt the song birds and bees. Ya hook it up to a hose and wait till just before dark and spray it up and down the sides of the house and around the yard and trees. Works for a month once it dries it is safe for all people and pets. I am waiting to hear about my chicks though so in the mean time I am suffering like crazy from bites as ya can't walk out without being in a cloud. We always have a bad mosq problem here but it is way out of control this year.

Oh thanks mucho! ... I'll look for those next time we go shopping.

Picaridin is the name I believe

Edit to add, Avon also has products with Picaridin.

I am allergic to ALL insecticides, and I use neem oil!! it smells nice (like lemons) and it is 100% chemical free, all natural, safe for kids, pets, even really little kids!!! it keeps away mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, chiggers...etc. it also helps the bites you have feel better!! I also use carmex (lip balm) on my mosquito bites, it takes the itch away completely, and the welts dissapear in about a day!!!!
