Question. Is there anything I can hang in the coop to keep the mosquitoes out? Can deet be used on chickens? I have bare bottom chickens because they pick at the mosquitoes and pluck out feathers. I live in central Florida. at the edge of a swamp. We are overrun.

How about a zapper? I’ve heard that the hens love to eat all the dead critters. I wouldn’t use deet near any birds ,

Permethrin spray (I live in FL too). We spray the coop walls with it where most of the mosquitos congregate. Having smaller chicks helps with the low down mosquitos, tasty snacks!

I bought some permethrin concentrate at TSC and it says it's safe to use in coops and areas where poultry (as well as other "farm" animals are kept. We used to use it to spray on English budgies for non blood sucking lice and never lost a bird from using it.

I was once told things like OFF should never be used around dogs, so assume any animal, as it can kill them.

no electricity out at the coop so a zapper is not an option. picked up some permethrin to try. says you can spray birds directly.

Cleaned all three coops. Thoroughly sprayed everything including birds. Haven't seen a single fly all afternoon. We'll see how mosquitoes do tonight.
