Moss in duck pen?

Before i make their permanent home in the yard, i wanted to run somethin by you folks. I'm planning on putting the pen in a pretty shady part of the yard that only gets direct light for maybe 4 hours a day. With 90-100 degree days in the summer, i dont wanna come home to cooked ducks. With it being shady a lot, theres a particular moss thats growing thats really soft and i figured theyd enjoy it. Are there any mosses that can hurt ducks or any reason why moss being there is a bad thing? Its just a portion of it, maybe a quarter or third of the pen.

Also, i have clear roofing. It wont get a ton of direct sunlight until around noon. Am i wrong to think theyll be out of the house during this time so the heat wont matter? Home depot may not take it back because its been on the ground in the rain, but i can try if its that big of a deal. Thanks!

Sounds similar to our setup - under a sugar maple. And Duck House 1 has clear roofing and since it's in the shade, doesn't get that warm. I do have sliding panels in the ceiling so that during warm sunny days I could get plenty of air in there. that was a consideration when ducks would go broody.

I have mostly moss in a heavily shaded part of my yard. There's at least 3 different kinds there but possibly more. It's my ducks favorite foraging spot. That ground gets turned over every day. Doesn't seem to hurt the moss at all. It's been established there for about 50 years, though.

Thanks! I was thinking with its moisture content and coverage for insects that it would be a great spot for them to hunt. Plus, it's so soft I'm sure it would be great to lay and walk on.

It is soft. I like to stand on it when my feet get tired .
