MOST ACCURATE HYGROMETER?

I have tried six (SIX!) cheapo hygrometers, spending : $7 for the walmart specials(3), $20 for a reptile hygro from petco(1), $8 for non-digital reptile hygros (2).

I calibrated them and became so frustrated with the up to 10% differential that I returned all of them except the two walmart ones and spent $29.99 on a "caliber 3 " bywestern. I got it at a cigar shop. I use it to calibrate the other two- one of which is "off" by 3-low, the other 10-high.

After I get overbeing ticked-off I will go buy another "caliber 3 " and do a ritual crushing of the other two.

The literature with the caliber three says: DO NOT do the salt-thing with that unit.

The best hygrometer you can use is using a glass thermometer as a WET BULB. You can't get more accurate than that and you do not need to rely on batteries to know if its working, or if the batteries need changed.

However, the best is also the most difficult to use

Quite right, wet bulb thermometers work well, but keeping the wicks clean, and understanding what it is telling you will prove tricky for a lot of folk around here

I am using an Accurite that I got from Walmart. It's cheap and it registers the high and low temp and humidity. It is good to check for spikes and big flucuations in your bator. I like it.

OK, I'm gonna ask...

If it says you should not do the salt test, how do you know it's accurate or why do you believe it's accurate.

Check it against a calibrated wet-bulb thermometer

it is hard to get one i like. i have two different ones and neither one says the same percent. same with thermo's. i have 3 in there and none are the same. so i am just goin with it and see how we hatch.
