Amen. Cute, nicely sized, sweet personalities, fast growers and good egg producers.
Just stay away from the araucana/ameracauna/easter egger argument that always overshadows them and enjoy them for what they are - a good work horse breed.
i started to go with barred cochins and buff o's but i wanted to sell something more practical than barred cochins. what do tall think about delawares? production reds?
I would research different breeds that I am interested in then ask others about the specific breed before I choose. That being said my favorite breeds are Araucanas and Orpingtons. I love their personalities and their physical appearance and their egg laying potential.
I think it depends on the market you are going after.
If you are targeting the new chicken keepers in the suburbs and cities, you may want to focus on pretty breeds or breeds that lay colored eggs. If you are marketing to people who are most interested in egg production, sex links, RIRs, Leghorns.
I wanted pretty lap chickens that would give me just enough eggs, and I am happy with my Wyandottes, Speckled Sussex and Silver Campine.
^^ thats good advice,, if your area is anything like mine,, the people here want ALL,,, they want the "eye candy", the banty's, the egg layers, the meat,,, i cant even keep up with what they all want lol. now im just focusing on the brown egg layers, next will be meaties ( couple weeks i think) and then this summer work on the eye-candy.
