I don't find the yogurt and cheese thread to be nonsense nor the what's for supper thread.

Absolutely!!!! I have made so many terrific on-line friends just through the above mentioned threads!! That doesn't include the Christmas Crafts thread from LAST Christmas that MANY of us still post on everyday and the new Knitting thread and yes, whoever mentioned the Croc Girl Diaries...my all-time favorite entertainment on the forum!!!

I think, my opinion, that we make friends in the social threads and that is the reason we are so willing to help one another out in the chicken threads..just my opinion but the social threads are the gravy to the meat and potatoes of the chicken threads.

The BYC Staff members have heard me say this a million times, but I'll say it again:

BYC's first priority is to help people help their chickens

The second priority is to provide a fun and inviting place for people to meet, get to know, and enjoy each other's company.

The two priorities are VERY connected! The benefit of the second priority is that it greatly helps with the first. In general, you'll often see people come into a forum, get help and leave. Nothing keeps them around for too long. If we have a friendly social and inviting place to be then people will stick around. If people are around, there is more of a chance that they will see new members and their questions and will help them out.

BYC is also like a form of "paying it forward": Many of us came to BYC not knowing a lot about chickens and there were a lot of friendly people who helped us out. We "pay it forward" by then turning around and helping new members that may need help with the same questions.
