Speaking of mothers in law...first of all, I never call my husband's mother, my mother in law, just my husband's mother is all I need to say.
Rose and I would NEVER see eye to eye on things...she is a very notorious packrat...bought clothes and more clothes in garage sales and pack them all in closets, hubby's old bedroom and basement in boxes, almost filling them to the brim. More of plastic junk like bowels and glasses from DQ, remember those baseball hats that they served ice cream in? and MORE broken items that she was abusive to her electronic items like tape players and threw all of them in the basement as "you never know when you might need them and they will come in handy". Well I must admit some of those items are so old....and starting to rust or moldy.
Her social life is pretty much watching soap operas....her life depends on it and tape ALL channels of soapies so she can watch them later. She LOVES a good spar between couples by throwing a wrench that would guarantee a full blown arguement that has no true meaning or valid complaint...just throwing fuel in the fire. Her marriage sucks even after more than 45 years of marriage and doe snot want to do anything with my father in law who I just enjoyed being around him even he's goofy. Complains about everything and anything!
When she came to visit our new house, she put us down as "rich folks"...we are no means being rich..if you call making less than $21.000 a year RICH, then we got it made! We just came across a rare jewel of a house in the Elms but needed major renovations and touch ups.
She has NO love for her son and loves her daughter more.....might explain the son she once had when she was very very young and had to give her son up for adoption. After she got married and got my husband into the world, she did not make his life happy...always negative and treated him like trash. When her daughter was born, she dotes on her and waits on her hand and foot until her daughter got married and left home at the age of 35 I believe.
Tapes her music on tape player and never listens to them again, just keeps buying more tapes and stores them in plastic containers, stacking from floor to ceiling next to the book case. I would imagine she probably got at least five thousand cassette tapes in those storage containers.
Lies or deliberately change dates or names of her family tree.....its a headache but found them all on Ancestory and Mormons library on her family tree...it was for my hubby and father in law as well for my daughter so they all know who is who in the family trees. She didnt like it ONE bit when I did find out the truth and it was NONE of my business to know. She was seething when I told stories I found or names I found with my sis in law and father in law about her family. Dont we ALL have skeletons in our closets even some of our relatives were whores, robbers, theives or any bad deeds they did back in those days??? Nothing to be ashamed, they had paid or did what they had to do to survive.
Spends money like water! As soon as she gets it, more tapes or buying junk off thosecatalogs that you know they were cheaply made.
Cooking is horrible....ever had watered down mashed potatoes???? Lets the cat on the counter, grooming himself, hair flying while she fixed fried chicken..>UGH. One time I was making some homemade chicken pot pie and the cat got up on the counter where I was cutting up chicken. i nearly wanted to KILL the cat and with my elbow, I shoved the cat off the counter. She got on my case about that. I dont even allow my cat on my counter tops, period. Think of its mouth licking fur and butt and paws being in litterbox.....
Did nothing about their dog peeing on the basement floor...I was livid! I told her to take the dog OUTSIDE or put him in the crate when they come to visit. She said fine, I will wait in the truck and took the dog with her and sat in the truck for hours and honking the horn for every ten minutes for my father in law to come out. Fortunately the neighbors didnt complain....She got problems with boundaries.....
Has NO drivers license (whats going to happen if she lost her husband....they live out in the country and she can not drive) nor does she have a high school diploma nor worked any jobs in her life after being married. Her social security was only thirty dollars a month along with her husbands' pension and social security....how in the world elderly people would survive on that if and when the pension ceased when the pensioner dies??? She said she would make my husband or her daughter jump to their feet whenever she needed even both hubby and sis in law live more than an hour and half drive from their house. She will NOT live in a nursing home or independent elderly living apartments or house in town. They are roughly about five miles from town.
So I got a nutcase of her and avoid all contact with her as much as I can. Above all, I wish she would get a life! Is she crazy or what?????
Now I get off my soapbox.....I certainly can relate to you Judymae, homecat, and I am sure my hubby feels the same way with my mother but my mother knows too much....
I too love to hear mother in law OR Hubby's mother stories....makes you laugh! One of these days I will be a mother in law and would it be horrible if we turned out to be like them?????!!!!!!!
