Mottled bantams cochins gender

I figured that's what it was. Just didn't want to find out I had a frazzle! I'd be very shocked though, as these people are very responsible with their breeding, and very knowledgeable too, although fairly new to it. Thank you!

I raise bantam cochins every year. You can definitely tell by 5 weeks who is who. I have never had a doubt with mine, so I think you stop worrying.

Here's mine from last year at 7 weeks. Yours aren't gonna develop big combs like the boy on the right in 2 weeks time.

I am not really in the chicken raising business, but those Mottled Bantam Cochins just kinda raise themselves :) Free range birds and a couple hidden nests and voila! chickens everywhere! Mine look just like yours at that age - roosters always feathering out unevenly (specifically the backs taking forever) and pullets feathering out nice and even. Also, good choice OP, they are the best!!!

I've lusted after mottled Cochins since I first started thinking about getting chickens last November, and thought I'd never actually have any! I love Cochins, but the Golden Lace and mottled are my favorites. They, along with Seramas and Polish were my dream chickens. They are definitely feathering out nice and even! I keep hearing how sweet Cochins are. The people that sold them to us had a little boy who was carrying around his own Cochin hen. She was so sweet and calm! Actually seemed to enjoy being hauled all over the place.

I acquired mine very randomly... There was a gal in the Mud Bay pet food store and she was asking folks if they wanted them - I said sure! She showed up to my house, delivered a hen sitting on about 30 eggs or so in a nice dog kennel. Gave me the hen for free and said keep the kennel! It was pretty funny. I got the impression that she had them coming out her ears and was just relieved to be rid of one. Mine are amazing layers as well! Delicious tiny little eggs every day.

Edited to add, they really are the coolest little bun butts :)

I enjoyed your little story, honanbm. I guess just about everyone agrees cochins are sweethearts. I'm already attached to mine, and I've only had them a few days! They are taming right down.

Just for funsies - Here are a couple pics of my favorite girl. My five year old nephew named her Fox (Clearly a sign of future X-Files awesomeness) and she is just the sweetest girl. And she poses :D
