From what I understand, if your's counts as light barred (which it should) I would hope you would know if (say you bought it from a person) if the hen was barred, or the cock. The hen only gives barring to sons, the rooster can give it to either sex offspring (at least according to the thread I linked.)


However crele chicken photos are amazing to look at, and since he is already interested in patterning then that is an avenue he/you might pursue.

We bought our chicks in a large order with friends from McMurray with 8 Whitings….this was the only one with that specific coloring, and hence the one he chose. (We were only keeping 1 whiting, I do like his choice!)

Last year he chose a Splash Laced Red Wyandotte. I have a feeling as he gets older he will be very interested in how to create different patterns genetically!
