Mouse Plague!! HELP

I had a cat once.

Turns out I'm severely allergic to them. It was sad because I loved her very. My dachshund, Lily, is just over 14 weeks old and she is vicious when it comes to rats.

I actually watched her catch both of the rats. It seems that she was using them as toys. She threw them around all over the place. And they both were nearly as big as she is. But I must say that I am very relieved that at least those two are gone. Whoo hoo!

He's my 2 cents. Try a shallow dish of coke. An old farmer once told me that mice and rats drink it and can't belch and they then die. I know that a lot of you will laugh at this but he never had any mice or rats around his place. I have never tried it but ....... has anyone else ever heard of this?

Well, darn read every post on here and nothing I haven't tried:( We have a HUGE mouse probelm inside and out. We have every year but way worse this winter. During the summer, I have the ratsnakes that move into the garage so that helps. We have a huge cornfield in front of our house so that doesn;t help at all!!
The chicken feed is in a galanized trash can now, and scratch in the fridge in the garage. Thankfully they haven't gotten into my dogs food yet. We have tunnels dug up everywhere in the chicken yards and we've seen/heard the mice running. This year they have moved to the house. The only rooms I haven't found mouse poop is the livingroom, our BR and the room that has all our pet snakes. I'm guessing they haven't been in there b/c wild mice know what snakes are!
I have two indoor cats and 7 house dogs. My oldest cat is almost 9 and we are so excited/shocked that she caught one. When we use to feed live to the snakes at our old house we had some escaped. We thought for sure Bindi had gotten them until we walk in after feeding her to see her sharing her food with a rat and a mouse once.
Thursday, my newest rescue Fergie(8yr old pug) caught one running down the hall. She ate it too before I could get it.

We have snap traps everywhere including the attic and others are safely away from dogs/cats. I have live traps too. The one in the attic had 9 in it Thursday that I dropped trap and all into a bucket of water.
After we 1st noticed the signs of mice, we started searching. They have dug under the walls and are in the walls!!!! We and everyone else in here can hear them and it's driving me insane!! Fergie goes nuts at the walls so I so hope she doesn't start digging holes in my walls!!! I hear one right now under the fridge!!

I would have an outside cat if they weren't so expensive(my work discount sucks!!) to keep around here....FELV/FIV vacc's then the lovely abcess from cat fights. Not to mention my dogs are great with my indoor cats but have been known to kill cats in their yard.

My Minature Schnauzer (4yrs old) is a better mouser than my two cats!!!

Once he gets a whiff of a mouse, he is relentless on getting the mouse!! Shakes it until it dies!! YEAH!!

I DO appreciate all the GREAT ideas for SAFELY trapping mice. Now what about tree squirrels?? I have some in my attic!!!!

Thanks BYC!!

Redhen, I doubt your sonics are hurting your other pets for the simple reason that our personal experience is that THEY DON'T WORK! Otherwise why would there still have been mice and rats around to get stuck in our sticky traps?

We did resort to Purina Assault poison cubes, with a hole in the middle so that they can be wired to something and not drug off. However we do not have any poultry yet or any barn cats. The package claims there is no danger of secondary poison with the Assault although I wouldn't want to trust that.

We TRY to be very careful and make sure the poison is only in areas not accessible to unintended victims such as deep in our feed room. No I would be afraid to use them directly around the poultry too.

#1California Chick , We used live traps in our attic at our last house to catch squirrels. Then we fixed the hole the were coming thru.
