How long can it take them to start laying again as I am getting worried. I think one is an internal layer but I know the other should be fine. They stopped laying the day they came to build the new coop and shed which was March 31st (which did scare them as it was right next to their old coop). Then they stayed in their old coop for a couple weeks till we built their run. Just before we built the run (had the same 3 hens for 3 years) one suddenly died. So about 2 weeks ago this Thursday we moved the two girls into their new coop. During this time we made a smaller round pen inside the new run for the 6 4 week old new chicks to be in during the day. This seems to also be stressing out them as they carry on and on when we put the little girls in there. I would avoid doing so but we have no where else to put them and they are getting big enough that I also want the big girls to get use to them as much as possible. I think they may just be under a lot of stress but I see no way to have avoided it. I'm just concerned about not laying for so long. I hear them make their egg sond now and then and I go running to see if one layed an egg but nothing. If one of them had an egg in her the day they came to build the new shed/coop and she got stressed out from that and then everything that has happened since is it possible she could have an egg in her still from that time on but hasn't laid it due to the stress of everything? Should I be worried?

Hmm.... I suppose it could be stress, but commercial chickens lay through a LOT more stress. I might depend on breed, though.

Any chance they are molting? Or that there's some other reason for not laying?

i relocated some hens last fall and it too nearly 3 months for any of them to lay. now they are back to laying 5-6 eggs apiece a week.

They are Red Stars and have up till their 3 year mark have layed an egg everyday through extreme heat and all winter. They are not molting that I can tell though I have seen a few small feathers in the coop. Maybe one is at the start of molting. But I figure the stress of the building wish really scared them pretty bad, then one of them dying leaving only the two, then the stress of a new coop to get use to, then the stress of the baby chicks, I figure that all of that in one month is just stressing them out too much.

This is comforting to know. 3 months though??!! wow! I won't be resting easy till they lay again as I am so worried. Not to mention that with the loss of my best egg layer and then the 2 remaining not laying I have had to for the first time in 3 years buy a dozen eggs! I bought the more expensive ones but oh yuck they just don't compare!

I miss my eggs! I willhave to wait till August till the little girls start giving me eggs.

I'm guessing its just stress and they need a period of time to adjust. I have read that any disruption can cause them to stop laying.

I am getting ready to move mine to a new area. They will still have exactly the same coop setup though. I am getting them used to the area they will be in by letting them in there every day for a little bit.

Just give them a little time and they will reward you!

close to that. they were all in pretty bad shape when i got them having been in with a really rough rooster. i think part of it may have been that their energy went into regrowing feathers, it might also have triggered molting that i didn't notice because they had no feathers anyway...but like i say, they are all back to near peak performance and i am swimming in eggs so i wouldn't worry too much...

UPDATE:

My two 3 year old hens have still not layed an egg. One I am almost certain has that internal laying disorder but I don't know about the other. They have both been sitting in their nest boxes acting like they are laying (have been doing this for a month and a half about) but their is never anything there. One of them was laying fine before all the stuff I wrote in my original post happened so it makes me think or hope rather that she doesn't have the internal laying thing too. I sure hope not. I know some have said it took up to 3 months for there hens to start laying again but did they act like they were laying in the mean time like mine are?

I have read some posts about using cayenne pepper in either corn bread or rice to jump start the laying again and say it works with great success.

Could it be possible that she is ok but needs a jump start? It has been about 10 weeks since I had an egg. Well the one I believe to have the disorder has layed a yolk a few days after being in the new coop under her perch.
