My chicks are 3 weeks old today and looks like we'll have to move them into the garage! We've had them in the mud / laundry room, but the smelliness and dander is really starting to flow throughout the house, yikes!
I'm doing the move today. I don't have a wood brooder, but I did purchase a large cardboard wardrobe box, cut the top out and have an A frame standing heat lamp that can be placed over top. It doesn't touch the sides of the box. We cut out some hardcloth and placed over the openings along the top of the box. The chicks seems to be doing well. We check the inside temp now and then just to make sure they're warm. Our garage isn't insulated though, it's pretty drafty. Average outside temps here in Idaho are 45-50 degrees. Any suggestions on moving them to a drafty garage? Thanks!!!!

Checked on the chicks this morning in our drafty garage and they are warm and cozy. I wrapped some tarp around the outside of the box and partially over the top of the box brooder. Makes for nice insulation.
