Hi, I have 7 week old chickens and want to move them to the coop. It's my first time with chickens. The outside temperature is around 40 to 50 and lows around 30 degrees. They have been off the heat lamp for almost two weeks. As of right now there is no heat in the coop, but can put something to help till it gets warmer. I do live up in Maine so sometimes we will get a cold spell like I did a couple days ago with high temp of 30 and with wind blowing up to 15 mph.

Hi there.. I’m in NJ and we ve been quite chilly too. I moved mine out at about 7 weeks about two weeks ago. Are they fully feathered? If they will stay completely dry and you can break the wind, I would put them out during the day for several days then to a garage or basement at night where it’s cooler. Do this for a few days then they should be fine. Just make sure they are dry!

Thanks for the info. They are fully feathered and the coop is insulated. I am going to put them outside. Do I leave them in the dog cage or put them in the run. Then when I bring them in for the day I have a shed part of the house that is not heated to put them in.

I put mine out at 5 weeks, no heat source, lows in 30's, a freeze 2 days later. No problems. They'll be fine. REALLY!
Welcome to BYC!
