Moving chicks outside?

I don't have a set up for heating my coop so all my chicks stay inside till they are at least 3 months old. I like them to be able to take care of themselves in the flock pecking order and by then they are fully feathered.

I'd love to keep them inside till they were three months old, but my boyfriend's starting to whinge a bit about their smell. I don't think they smell at all, but he doesn't like it. At nearly six weeks old they're almost fully feathered now, all apart from wee baldy patches under their wings, so I suppose I can get them out to the big coop very soon. Oh, and I checked their bag of crumbs, and it is definitely non-medicated. Maybe that's more common over here in the UK?
