We have a very large chest of drawers box that we'll be using for our 6 chicks. Will this be sufficent for them until they are ready to go outside to the coop, or will I need to get something bigger once their a few weeks old?

I am using a small chest of drawers as a brooder for one set of my chicks. They got pretty cramped pretty fast, so I put a hardware wire fence in a semi-circle around it, and placed their feeder and waterer on the floor next to the dresser. Plus a small cardboard box as a "step" back into the bottom drawer. The cross bars that help slide the two upper drawers are perfect as roost perches for 'em. They all hop in and out of that drawer, and return to the dresser drawer and cross bars to sleep.

If you have a wider dresser than mine, perhaps you won't need the extra run around space I've had to create for my chicks.

ETA: After re-reading your post, I realize you said you were using the BOX FOR the dresser, not the dresser itself. Ooops. The box should be fine, depending on how many chicks you are brooding in it.
