I may be moving to Japan in the next year or so for work, and I desperately want to take my two ducks with me. I can't seem to find Japanese homes with any sort of yard.

Does anybody have any experience keeping ducks in Japan? I know there are safety precautions that must be taken before their government will allow you to import your birds. I just want to know if it's possible to find duck friendly homes there.

Thank you!

How deep are your pockets? i have no experience with birds. but customs charged me over 500$ for half a japenese leaf that was in a car i had imported

But thats japan to canada, Not Usa to japan, Hopefully its easier!

For dogs and cats other countries have a quarantine period, so you will want to check on their rules and regulations in Japan. Plus the airlines involved would have rules and regulations too.

Japan is pretty picky about what comes into Japan... Even mailing packaged cookies costs a fortune. If you want to bring your ducks, I would definitely do a lot of research in advance with Japanese customs. No way your going to smuggle in any quackers, and if you can't get them in, no point to worrying about housing. Housing, by the way, is at a premium there, it is a crowded island country. I'm sure you could probably find a place where you could keep ducks, but it would probably be costly. Another thing to consider: How hard is it going to be to get them back to the USA?

I think the move might be a little traumatic. I've flown to Japan and it was a loooooong flight. Somebody on here may be willing to foster your ducks if you plan on coming back.

I'm thinking that may be my best plan of action. I do wonder if somebody would be happy to take them for a couple of years, and be willing to give them up when I came back. It hurts my soul knowing I may be leaving behind my little girls.

I know a lot of people in the military leave their dogs and cats with people who will care for them while they are gone.
Hope that you can find a good foster for your ducks!
