Moving eggs from broody hen to incubator?? *Pics #28*

Maybe so! That was why I tried the dry incubation the second time last year, but that didn't work either. I think it may be my incubator...it was given to me by a friend nd AFTER I had the two no-go batches last year, she told me that she had always had trouble with it...nice, huh?

So, last night when I went to bed (midnight or so), the temp was 100.2 and humidity was 85. This AM the temp had dropped to 96, humidity was still 85...not sure how long it was like that, but I cranked the temp up and got it back up to 101. Humidity stayed the same through out. How big of a deal is this temp drop?? I hope I didn't mess anything up

This is exactly what I would do. Give her a few plastic eggs to keep her happy until you return the chicks.

I will consider that, but I have brooded chicks my self a few times now, and never had any issues. I don't really want to put them out with the other chickens, as I am afraid they will attack them. Broody isn't separated, as when I tried to move her, she refused to sit on the "eggs" for 3 days straight. I gave up and figured she wasn't broody anymore, let her out, and she went right back to her old nest, lol. So, I just let her incubate them with the rest of the crew. So, I will probably just brood them myself in my guest bath, like I have done in the past

Thanks guys!

After I thought about it, I don't think it got THAT low. That was the digital thermometer on the wire floor which reads 2-3 degrees lower than the one on the eggs

. Thanks for the confidence! Thursday makes 21 days. At what point should I give up on them??

Ack! I am so nervous. I have seen no signs of pipping...it is driving me nuts, even though day 21 isn't until tomorrow! I am dying here! I want to actually have some chicks hatch, darnit!

haha I know just what you mean!! Mine are only at day 16 and I am about to demand some action!!

Please post tomorrow and tell us how it goes!!! How many eggs do you have in the incubator?

Are you able to candle the eggs at all to see if there is any movement? If you can I suggest candling. If not then I'd say put the egg up to your ear to see if you can hear any cheeping in the eggs. My eggs are currently on Day 19 and it's driving me nuts. Hear cheeping but no one has pipped yet. Naturally the eggs that came from my birds I have the cheaping from. The ones that were ordered and shipped to me I hear nothing. Very frustrating.
