This is what I was told by the vet who came to test our chickens. If you are pulled over and the policeman sees you have chickens and you do not have the correct papers for them, they can take them and your car and whatever else they feel needs to be impounded and tested. Is is not worth the risk for me so we have our tested. He also said you would have to contact each state line you crossed to make sure you have the correct paper work. We had our whole flock tested for a whopping 25 dollars. No vet fee because he was a state vet... Can't get any better than that. Well worth finding out before traveling. Most of the time your vet if he is only a dog and cat vet will not know the ins and outs. At least ours did not. So we contacted the state and asked our local agi. rep. to see who to contact. Chickens and other animals carry things that other communities may not have so it is best for all if you plan to haul to have them check. Horses have to have them as well as any other animal traveling.
