only the shadow knows.....
I haven't made this big of a move in 15 years. Hubby got a new job (I won't have to work) but we have to move to SC from NC about 2 hours away.

Sooooo much to do in so little time!!!

Questions:

1) What is the best way to move chickens? They range in age from 6-11 weeks.

2) Can I legally transport them across state lines?

3) Which one of you is going to buy my house here so I can buy a new one down there?! (just kidding, unless you are looking!!)

I'd buy some large cages at the feed store or a large plastic dog carrier at the pet store. Load them up and make sure they have food and water along the way...

Check here for the SC state veterinarian:

Like most states, SC requires negative pullorum-typhoid results within the previous thirty days. Either a state NPIP test or a veterinarian's cert is required. May be cheaper to get the flock NPIP certified than to take them to a vet for the tests.

You can just pack the chickens in boxes with air holes and shavings for the 2 hour drive. They will be fine.
Keep them locked inside their new coop and pen for at least a week before you let them free range so that they will know where they are supposed to go to bed at night.
