Moving lone teen chicken out of the house

I have a heat lamp set up for Bleu and I have to talk to my daughter about Peepers because he is her best friend. She is 9 with not many friends and has invested her heart into these 2 chickens. I know someone with a farm that may be an option for Peepers

That’s great, please post an image with Bleu under the heat lamp. Although Peeps may be her best friend, consider the welfare of the chickens as well. If you sell him, you will have to buy Bleu some other chicks (day old chicks will be really good for him/her) and she will be watch them all grow up and all of them can be her friends!

You say you hatched them? Like, in your own KG class, you're the teacher? So that's how you know their ages and they are literally both 9 weeks old but two days apart? Yeah, if that's the case there is something seriously wrong with little Bleu! Does she have chick grit available? You said she eats and drinks, can you post a good clear pic of her poop? You said she screams at night because Peeps steps on her and won't let her eat; has that stopped since you got the heat lamp? Chickens don't generally eat at night ... well, I should say they won't eat in the dark, but with the heat lamp on it'll never be dark, so never mind... wish you could arrange a heat brooder for her instead, a heat cave she could snuggle under.

Got bleu back in under the heat lamp, she is enjoying cherries and now it looks like a murder scene. Also got her back on the daily vitamin b complex

I am an aide in the school so yes I know exactly when they hatched. I was just reading another thread of someone who had 2 hens that were about the same size as Bleu at 11 weeks. She is really starting to feather out and has normal little poops like Peepers but much smaller. I just figure we will give her all the love and attention we can and if she dies naturally it was meant to be. Peepers doesnt step on her at night, only during the day, he actually cuddles with Bleu and they make sweet little noises to eachothere at night.

Peepers will become hormonal in a few weeks. At that point it may not be good to have him around your daughter as they become agressive. A cockerel is a lot of work and your coop is only big enough for 1 bird no matter what the lying manufacturer says. It is also fragile and prone to water rot. It is drafty which is not the same as most important ventilation. I'd suggest 2 more day old birds and start building a bigger coop. Chickens are very social and do not do well alone. It could even impact the little ones health. I've heard 3 is the perfect number for the smallest flock. That way if something happens to one there is still a friend there. Raising chickens is fun and educational for your daughter. You did a good thing. Hang out here and ask questions about everything. We're here to help. :thumbsup
