Hi, all

I have 5 chickens but right now only one is laying at the moment. She has been laying only two weeks in same nesting box. I have 5 nesting boxes.

But I noticed chickens were sleeping In nesting boxes and I am tired of cleaning them every morning. So I am trying to raise roosting bar little higher than nesting boxes. Right now it is same height. In ordered to do that, I have to close current 2 nesting boxes for the location of roosting Bar. I think they have too many nesting boxes anyway.

So what will happen ? Will she go lay in other open nesting box??

Any ideas?!

Chickens are very flexible. She will be fine. Maybe she'll move boxes, maybe she's difficult (like mine) and boycott the box and make a nest on the floor.

But eventually, they'll all figure it out and use the boxes for laying, especially once the rest of them start. And 3 boxes is plenty for 5 chickens.

Best wishes!
Okay, Thank you. I was worried that she might not lay since she only laid in same box.

You are right. She laid an egg today where I put a golf ball.

Update

Went with 2x3 instead of 3( closed 2 nesting boxes permanently and made a nesting box cover for the other 3).. now everyone is sleeping on the roosting bar where I wanted them to be. ☺
