moving out doors looking for advice

Hi All, I will be moving my coturnix quail outside. I have a 3ft by 3ft brooder that I will put inside a dog run 4X8. I live in NY on long Island. so I'm wondering about heating for them? How far should they be away from my chickens and ducks? Should I be locking them in what will be there coop at night? I hear they are stupid as far as knowing to coop themselves at night. how large or small should the doorway be open for them? Any help or suggestions is appreciated.

I live in upstate ny i put my quail last week at 6 wks old i have them in a 36'' wide by 6' long run with a small hutch on one endi don't have heat on them anymore and they do go into the hutch
