Moving out of state

I'm jumping in without reading the whole thread. I've only lived in CT and upstate NY but right now, with the places I've been, I'd suggest looking at southern Ohio or Pennsylvania. That's without knowing a lot about the cost of living, job market, politics, etc. Just knowing I liked what I saw driving through, how nice the people I met were, lots and lots of farms and warmer than here in the winter. Hate to lose you but truth is if we were in a position to relocate I would too.
Forgot to add that I have a friend who relocated to Burnsville NC and absolutely loves it! She started off in TX then moved to the Detroit area. SHe prefers NC!

LOL, like you need to be closer to Salem Feed and Grain! Good to know though. We called the town when we first got ours and were told we could have them as long as the neighbors didn't complain. So for years we've had them with no roosters. Still no complaints even with George and Oliver but a friend in town says that his neighbors recently called and were told they had to apply for permission and get the neighbors to sign saying they had no problem with it. So I hope we don't end up in the same position as you. We'll have to start a chicken compound in Salem!

2 years ago when we did the same, with DH's job, we were able to choose to live just about anywhere in the US.
In order for us to narrow down where we wanted to live, we asked ourselves some questions.
1) What kind of weather do we want?
2) Since we have 2 young children, which state ranks highly for public education?
3) Once state was determined, we narrowed down which counties ranked highly for education?
We found ourselves in the Northern VA.

I'm only about 5 minutes from Salem now, maybe we could find a house right next to them
But we are defiantly thinking about buying land, not alot, but 5+ acres because we would love horses, and then build a modular home on it.

we still have lots of farm land here near pensacola. fl .. but it does get hot...
