Moving to Illinois

I lived in Chicago for the first 22 years of my life and NEVER knew Chicago permitted chickens. However Chicago is HUGE and maybe the law just extends to certain areas of it.
As far as I know you can have chickens in any part of the city. A few years ago, 10+ a family had a rooster and they lived by Lincoln Park Zoo.
There really isnt any farm animal we cant have in the city. Of course the proper care, amount of space and housing has to be provided. That alone would limit a lot of people. There is no slaughtering allowed, that would have to be done at an actual slaughter house so if you wanted to raise for eating that would be costly here.
I always say, we have the whole world in Chicago and that can and does include animals lol

I live in the city of Chicago, and I have chickens and ducks and three beehives. There is a lady a few blocks away who has chickens and multiple roosters. Although not prohibited, she lives on a double lot, in between two apartment buildings, and she has landed herself in court not because she has roosters but because of their noise. You can search for the chicken lady on the Chicago Tribune website. She's seems like a nice person. I am hesitant to get roosters, but it would make things easier when my chickens laying slows down, I could just crank out a new batch in the incubator! LOL!

Good luck and welcome.
